Gibbsův tým vyšetřuje smrt mariňačky, kterou přejelo auto a řidič z místa činu ujel. Podle stop pneumatik a barvy laku z auta brzy přijdou na majitele vozidla. Je jím seržant Justin Dunne, který však u výslechu tvrdí, že má nerozstřelitelné alibi, ale nechce mluvit, dokud nebude zastoupen advokátem. Jeho advokátkou je Carrie Clarková, Gibbsova stará známa kamarádka. Justin Dunne sdělí Clarkové, že v čase smrti mariňačky byl několik stovek kilometrů daleko, ale podílel se na jiném zločinu, při kterém zemřel člověk. Clarková si posléze alibi potvrdí. Clarková má dilema, musí hájit klienta i za cenu toho, že neprozradí Gibbsovi Dunnovo alibi, protože by ho tím vystavila dalšímu trestnímu stíháni a porušila by tím advokátní pravidla. Dunne je osvobozen v případu smrti mariňačky, ale Gibbs vytuší z chování Clarkové a jejich nenápadných indícií, že Dunnovo alibi je podezřelé a pustí se do pátrání. Nesmí však Dunne zjistit, že Clarková porušila pravidla a Gibbs si je toho plně vědom, protože je to jeho kamarádka.(TV Prima)
