Jessica se v San Francisku setkává s vraždou, ze které je obviněn proslulý operní zpěvák.Jessice během konference v San Francisku zavolá její starý přítel, šarmantní zloděj Dennis Stanton, a pozve ji večer na operu. V přestávce pak navštíví zákulisí a operní hvězdu Rosanna Bertolucciho, kterého přistihnou při potyčce s Lou Farradayem. Obviňuje ho, že si cíleně začíná s atraktivní mladou sopranistkou Marií Deschierovou. Hádka pokračuje i po představení, přičemž Maria dokonce tvrdí, že ji Farraday v šatně napadl. Nakonec vše končí zavražděním Farradaye a Bertolucciho infarktem. Bertolucci později prohlašuje, že šlo pouze o sebeobranu, nicméně poručík Birnbaum je skeptický. Jessicu od počátku mate chybějící bunda Farradaye, ale nakonec se jí vše podaří objasnit.(Radek273)
